Who are Colourful Histories?
Dr. Deborah Lee-Talbot | Methodological Consultant & Historian
Deborah Lee-Talbot strengthens the integrity of historical records through collaborative methodology and social critique. Her work focuses on building ethical frameworks that surface hidden narratives in global archives — with particular attention to gender, power, and Pacific-Australian histories.
Deborah partners with institutions and researchers to refine how complex historical data is categorised and interpreted, ensuring these records are preserved with precision for the digital age.
Selected Projects & Recognition
In 2023, Deborah completed research at the State Library of New South Wales as a CH Currey Fellow, investigating archival practice through the project Archives of the Archivist: Phyllis Mander-Jones and the Keeping of Australian-Pacific Records, 1896–1957. A National Library of Australia Summer Scholarship in 2022 supported her analysis of records from the Australian Joint Copying Project. Her research paper on women's leadership in Pacific missions was highly commended at the 2021 Pacific Historians Association conference. Deborah's academic contribution to Deakin University and the wider community was recognised with the Alfred Deakin Medal in 2018.
Published research and book reviews appear in History Today, the Journal of Pacific History, Limina, Australian Policy and History, and the Professional Historians Association (Vic & Tas). Her work has also been presented at public events, seminars, and conferences internationally.
